Final Movie Editing

I edited my photos for my final movie using photo shop. I used pictures that I had taken and then either outlined or filled in shapes that I was talking about. To outline the objects I used the magic wand and the magnetic lasso. I also used the brush tool to add markings such as angles and sides. I used the crop tool a lot to make sure that my pictures didn't have to much excess material. I also used the vignette feature a couple of times to spice up some of my pictures. The type tool came in handy to label the shapes that I was talking about in the audio.

I used a lot of the features offered by movie maker to make my movie better. Some of my videos had been shot before I knew exactly what was going to be included in my video, so I had to use the split feature a couple of times. I also used this feature to grab the parts of the songs that I wanted to include. To make my video more interesting I used the effects and transitions tools, which let my pictures run into each other smoothly.

Podcast

My podcast was made as a review of what had been covered in the previous week and what the students would be seeing in the coming week. I had a student cover the topics that they had learned in the earlier week and then I explained what would be covered the next week. I think that this is something that could be easily done each week and I believe that my students may enjoy helping me with this. I edited all of my pictures except the 1st, 6th, and 9th using photo shop. I took pictures of different shapes and then edited them by adding titles and different marks. Then I made collages out of these pictures to go along with the audio of the podcast. When editing these photos I used many different features such as crop, feather, vignette, the brush tool, the clone stamp tool, paint bucket, magic wand, type tool, lasso, marquee, the fill and stroke tools, resize, and more. I many of these tools simultaneously when editing many of my photos and I found that it added a lot to my pictures. I hope you all enjoy my podcast.

I-pod subscription: Learning Basic Math Videos

I have subscribed to Adrian Amparo: Learning Basic Math Videos. These videos cover subjects that the students see early on in school, but I think that some of my students need a quick review from time to time. I would show these podcast videos to refresh my students on certain topics.

I-pod subscription: Stem Cell Research by Wheaton College

I subscribed to stem cell research which is offered by Wheaton College. It had 11 tracks so far, whcih are all related to stem cell research. I found these podcasts interesting because this is such a touchy subject right now. I personally argue against the use of human fetuses and I wanted to see what information I could gain from these podcasts. I could show these podcasts to my classes when this particular subject is brought up. There are several days when my students will get off on a subject, arguing their particular side to something, and it is hard to get them to regain focus. I think that these podcasts would answer a lot of their questions and would be very educational.

This is my 2 minute movie, which ended up being five minutes. This movie could be used by a student who had missed this lesson and wanted to catch up. It includes the notes, examples, and assignment that went along with the lesson.

Favorite Teacher Tube Video

My favorite teacher tube video is Mrs. Burks' perimeter rap. It is really funny and it still has a valuable lesson. I would definately show my students this video.

Photostory 3 - Article Review

Introduction

My name is Leigha Behrens and I teach at Beatrice High School, NE. I am currently working with sophomores through seniors and teaching them Algebra and Geometry. I graduated from Kansas State University in May of 2007, which means that this is my second year teaching. I married my husband Kyle in July of 2007, and we live on a farm outside of Marysville, Kansas. We are expecting our first child at the end of August, which will make things much more lively.

Even though I have always grown up with technology I do not feel very experienced because it is always changing and this is my first technology class since I was in high school. I have not been able to incorporate much technology into my classes due to the lack of equipment that I have available. The most technology that I use with my students is in the computer lab where I have them research mathematicians and play games to get extra practice on skills. I have always used Windows XP because that was what was available to me, and have had very little experience with a MAC.

I decided to work towards my master's so that I could learn some new information that would make me a better teacher, and to move me up on the pay scale. I was hoping to get it finished before I had my first child, but will not be able to pull it off. I have learned several new techniques from these classes and have gained a lot of insight through my classmates experiences. After these classes are over I don't plan on taking anymore classes for awhile so that I can focus on my family. I would like to go back to school someday to become a school counselor, because I really enjoy talking to students about what is going on in their lives.
